Lower estimates for the expected Betti numbers of random real hypersurfaces

چکیده
We estimate from below the expected Betti numbers of real hypersurfaces taken at random in a smooth real projective n-dimensional manifold. These random hypersurfaces are chosen in the linear system of a large d-th power of a real ample line bundle equipped with a Hermitian metric of positive curvature. As for the upper bounds that we recently established, these lower bounds read as a product of a constant which only depends on the dimension n of the manifold with the Kählerian volume of its real locus RX and √ d n . Actually, any closed affine real algebraic hypersurface appears with positive probability as part of such random real hypersurfaces in any ball of RX of radius O( 1 √ d ). Betti numbers of random real hypersurfaces and determinants of random symmetric matrices
We asymptotically estimate from above the expected Betti numbers of random real hypersurfaces in smooth real projective manifolds. Our upper bounds grow as the square root of the degree of the hypersurfaces as the latter grows to infinity, with a coefficient involving the Kählerian volume of the real locus of the manifold as well as the expected determinant of random real symmetric matrices of ...
متن کاملRandom Matrices and the Expected Topology of Quadric Hypersurfaces
Let XR be the zero locus in RP n of one or two independently and Weyl distributed random real quadratic forms. Denoting by XC the complex part in CP n of XR and by b(XR) and b(XC) the sums of their Betti numbers, we prove that: (1) lim n→∞ Eb(XR) n = 1. In particular for one quadric hypersurface asymptotically Smith’s inequality b(XR) ≤ b(XC) is expected to be sharp. The methods we use combine ...
متن کاملAsymptotically Maximal Families of Hypersurfaces in Toric Varieties
A real algebraic variety is maximal (with respect to the SmithThom inequality) if the sum of the Betti numbers (with Z2 coefficients) of the real part of the variety is equal to the sum of Betti numbers of its complex part. We prove that there exist polytopes that are not Newton polytopes of any maximal hypersurface in the corresponding toric variety. On the other hand we show that for any poly...
متن کاملL–betti Numbers of Hypersurface Complements
In [DJL07] it was shown that if A is an affine hyperplane arrangement in Cn, then at most one of the L2–Betti numbers b i (C n \ A, id) is non–zero. In this note we prove an analogous statement for complements of complex affine hypersurfaces in general position at infinity. Furthermore, we recast and extend to this higher-dimensional setting results of [FLM09, LM06] about L2–Betti numbers of pl...
متن کاملOn a special class of Stanley-Reisner ideals
For an $n$-gon with vertices at points $1,2,cdots,n$, the Betti numbers of its suspension, the simplicial complex that involves two more vertices $n+1$ and $n+2$, is known. In this paper, with a constructive and simple proof, wegeneralize this result to find the minimal free resolution and Betti numbers of the $S$-module $S/I$ where $S=K[x_{1},cdots, x_{n}]$ and $I$ is the associated ideal to ...
